This is Leon, our 2 year old Belgian Malinois – Tervuren. My family adopted Leon from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Before his adoption, Leon was being trained as a military working dog. Leon was put up for adoption by the Department of Defense because he would overheat in extreme humidity conditions, making him a liability to the government, and his future missions. We actually drove to Texas to pick him up! Because he was in the military for a time, he has a tattoo in his left ear that says W024. That was his ID number. Leon is a very hyperactive dog. Adjusting to civilian life was steady for him as he discovered the television (he would bark at it for the first few weeks), windshield wipers (he would bark at them too) and house rules. He loves to chew on things and chase any kind of bouncing ball. His favorite toys are his rubber KONG and tennis balls. When he sees his toys he starts salivating! He’s so easy to please. When you look at him he emanates affection and love no matter what your mood is. He is very therapeutic to have a round on those days when you feel down and out of sorts. We all love Leon! After having three dogs that have blessed my family, he was a welcomed addition to the family that keeps us on our toes.
